Big Alcohol Mistake (BAM)

The Lauderdale County Children's Policy Council conducted the first BAM! program this year during high school prom season.

BAM!, which stands for Big Alcohol Mistake, is aimed at showing high school juniors and seniors the danger of drinking and driving. The SAVE Committee developed this program with the help of the Darby Foundation and many volunteers.County School Resource Officers, Reggie Gamble and Jaye Slaton, rode in the golf carts with the students while the students wore DUI Simulation goggles and tried to maneuver an obstacle course.  The students were amazed at the difficulty they experienced while driving the course as many cones were knocked down.

After attempting to maneuver the course, students were given a DUI Ticket which explained the consequences of an actual DUI.  Hopefully, the BAM! Program made an impact on these young people and they will have the tools they need to make good decisions regarding alcohol use.
